I am new to arcpy. So Please post a link to a answer if this already exists.
I have two feature class , one with multiple polygons, say "boundary" and other with multiple points, say "cities". I would like to perform spatial join to find number of cities in the selected boundary which needs to satisfy certain condition, say the area of the polygon should be more than 500 sq km.
python arcgis arcpy

The solution that I have came across is to make a separate in memory layer , by using arcpy.MakeFeatureLayer_management using where_clause and then performing Spatial_Join Analysis.
